Dr David DuffyArnold Ehret's Mucusless Diet Healing System:
A Medical Analysis of Lessons 25, 26

By David L. Duffy, MD

In addition to the Mucusless; diet, Arnold Ehret recommends exercise. Physical activity stimulates the circulation and loosens the "foreign matter" which has accumulated in the various tissues.

When a person is fasting and experiences the symptoms of elimination such as fatigue, he should rest. On good days he should exercise. Walking, dancing, and singing are excellent. Also hiking in the mountains helps exercise and breathing. He recommends activity in fresh air.

Ehret describes nine exercises

1. As you breathe in raise your arms as high about your head as possible. Lower your arms as you exhale. Do this six times.

2. With arms elevated in front of the chest and hands together, pull to the right, resisting with the left hand. Pull again to the opposite side. Breathe in during pull and out as you relax. Do this six times.

3. With hands together in front of the body raise the right arm while resisting with the left, breathing in as thee arms go up. Repeat while resisting with the left arm. Breathe out as your relax and lower the arms. Do this six times.

4. With hands clasped on top of the head bend body hard to the right and then left to an upright position five times, Then bend the body hard to the left and then right to the upright position five times. Take a deep breath and hold before each movement. This exercise stimulates the liver.

5. Clasp hands behind the neck and hold all muscles tense. Twist to the right and back to forward position five times. Twist to the left and back to forward position five times. Hold the legs rigid.

6. Grasp the hands behind the back and raise the arms as far as possible while standing straight. Inhale in upward motion and exhale when relaxing. Do this six times. This develops the chest.

7. With the right hand on the right hip clench the left fist and raise the left arm slowly while inhaling. At the same time bend the body firmly to the right side. Exhale while you bring the body upright and relax. Raise the right arm slowly while bending to the left. Repeat the total exercise five times.

8. Grasp the hands firmly in front of the chest with all muscles tense. Twist as far as possible to the left without moving the feet. Inhale during the motion and exhale when relaxed. Twist as far as possible to the right. Do each exercise six times.

9. Raise the arms above the head as high as possible. Bend forward and try to touch the floor without bending the knees, Inhale as you bend. Exhale when relaxed. Start by doing this five times. Gradually increase to twenty times.

Ehret recommends these exercises early in the morning.

Taken all together these exercises stretch and squeeze all the major muscles of the body. They also activate the circulation and bring oxygen to the farthest parts of the body.

(For those interested Pete Egoscue has developed a more elaborate series of exercises designed to strengthen muscles and improve posture. See his book "Pain Free" by Pete Egoscue, Bantam Books 1998.)

As part of the cleansing process Ehret recommends sun bathing. Sunshine is refreshing and stimulates the production of Vitamin D. However, prolonged sunbathing to the point of sunburn can damage the skin and promote skin cancer.

Ehret recommends lower colonic enemas. After a regular bowel movement one uses a syringe to inject two or three quarts of water into the lower colon. The water is held 15‑20 minutes, The colon is massaged up the right side when lying on the right and down the left side while lying on the left, Then the water is ejected. The best time is just before retiring.

With regards to bathing Ehret recommends a system of watering the hands and rubbing the entire body Dry by rubbing with your bare hands for 5 minutes. Ehret's method of bathing brings increased circulation to the skin and opens the pores.

In Arnold Ehret's concluding message he reminds us that disease consists of an "unknown, decayed, and fermented mass of matter in the human body." Medical authorities do not appreciate the importance of a thorough and deep cleansing of the human "cesspool", When fruit mixes with mucus and decomposed protein foods the person feels sick and fruit is blamed.

In his personal history Ehret once experienced a painful purging of diarrhea and vomiting which came after eating a meal of grapes. Afterwards he felt strong and energetic. Ehret's Mucusless diet is like the diet of Paradise. Regaining health requires a cleansing, a physiological purification within one's own body. Ehret considered his work serious. By following these principles and healing ourselves we may help a suffering, unhappy mankind.
